Since there are several factors to keep in mind before you make your decision, we decided to do the hard work for you. To capture the balance between quality and affordability, we identified the top 50 schools for an undergraduate industrial engineering degree based on three core metrics related to affordability, class size, and student success. We searched for industrial engineering bachelor’s degree programs using the National Center for Education Statistics’ College Navigator tool. We then narrowed down the initial pool of 125 colleges and universities into the top 50 programs based on the methodology.
Average Cost of Attendance
Most students will look at a school’s tuition rate before even considering the specifics of the programs offered. Although this article is based on affordability and we understand the temptation to want to save money, try to make sure you are also receiving a high-quality education in the field you wish to work. For the following ranking, we awarded points based on how much an in-state student can expect to pay for one full year of undergraduate study. We used tuition rates provided by the NCES. We also included rates for out-of-state students for reference purposes only and did not use these numbers for ranking schools.

Student-to-Faculty Ratio
Next, we awarded points based on each school’s student-to-faculty ratio. We used this number as an indicator of the learning environment at the following institutions. In other words, schools with low ratios tend to offer smaller classes and, therefore, more opportunities for individualized studies, mentoring, and the development of relationships between students and faculty. Think about your own learning preferences when comparing these numbers. Do you thrive in a smaller environment, or would you rather blend into the background and complete your studies with minimum interactions with others? There are pros and cons to both, but we awarded the most points to schools with student-to-faculty ratios of one professor for every 10 or fewer students, according to NCES.

Graduation Rate
Finally, the last factor we considered was each school’s graduation rate. We used this number to get a better idea of student satisfaction and, therefore, student success. In other words, undergraduates who are generally happy with their studies are more likely to remain enrolled and graduate with their degrees. After all, that is the ultimate goal. On the other hand, unhappy students might leave and finish their degrees somewhere else. Low graduation rates could be due to any number of reasons like a lack of academic support, unaffordable degrees, or unhelpful faculty members. Therefore, schools with the highest graduation rates from NCES earned the most points in the following ranking.
