When someone is looking to pursue a business degree, one of the most important decisions which should be reached is choosing between a Bachelor’s of Business and a Bachelor’s of Entrepreneurship. While both degrees are perfect for those looking to focus their attention on the business aspects, each appeals to a different kind of person.
Bachelor’s of Business vs. Bachelor’s of Entrepreneurship
The Bachelor’s of Business relies upon building a solid foundation for the concepts and skills that are necessary for success in business management. This degree takes a dispassionate perspective of the way that business operates by breaking things down into such areas as economics, finance, marketing, as well as business leadership.
A Bachelor’s of Business has a rather “dry” approach to business, however, a Bachelor’s of Entrepreneurship deals with a marriage of both “creative” and “business.” An entrepreneurial degree helps individuals see beyond the mundane elements of business and encourages thinking “outside the box.”
Explosive Growth
As difficult as it might be to believe, there was a time when colleges and universities did not consider offering courses in entrepreneurship. Entrepreneur pointed out that in 1970, a survey conducted of business schools discovered only 16 courses in entrepreneurship. The study was then repeated in 1997 and revealed more than 400 schools were offering at least one course in entrepreneurship and over 50 schools had at least four courses.
Business Consultant
One of the ways to use a degree in entrepreneurship is to become a business consultant. There are companies, both large and small, that find themselves needing someone to come in with a “fresh eye” to find areas of weakness that need to be addressed. A degree in entrepreneurship provides both the ability to know what needs to be fixed, as well as the ways it can be fixed.
Research and Development
Companies are always looking for ways they can improve their bottom line and they invest a great deal of time in research and development. An entrepreneurial degree teaches students to look at everyday problems and find unique ways to solve them. By taking this knowledge and developing it within an organization, an individual can help initiate change that leads to a stronger organization.
Start a Business
Of course, one of the most useful ways to use an entrepreneurial degree is to start a business. The typical entrepreneur is someone who sees a need for a product or service and has the passion to pursue it. Where someone with an entrepreneurial degree has an advantage over others who might not have that degree is having the foresight to anticipate problems that have been experienced by others and studied, allowing them to have solutions already in mind. Starting a business with someone who has an entrepreneurial degree makes walking the path of the entrepreneur a great deal easier than someone who has to start a business and operate through trial-and-error.
